Fosters needed...

West Yorkshire Dog Rescue desperately need fosters as we have no kennels. Fosters are the lifeline for the dogs, and the more fosters we have the more dogs we can save.

Fostering demands a lot of time and patience but is very rewarding.

Please consider carefully as we need people capable of giving the dogs a real chance and not just giving up on them - we only rescue dogs with good temperaments but they may have other unknown behaviour problems. Typically they may chase cats, and until they settle suffer from anxiety resulting in issues such as housetraining and chewing. We spend a lot of time supporting our fosters and try as hard as possible to match fosters to dogs. If you offer to foster - we ask you to show commitment and don't hand the dog back to us immediately something isn't perfect as we have nowhere else to put the dogs.

The foster is paramount to helping us find a suitable home.

We advertise the dogs and also the foster can help find homes. The foster gets to know the dogs best so we ask the foster to provide information about the dog and it's behaviour and recommend to us the type of home best for the dog. Suitable potential owners visit the foster to view the dog. To ensure the foster feels involved with the rehoming process they are invited to attend the homecheck, and if the homecheck passes, in discussion with Kathy, it is the foster that makes the final decision on whether the dog they have fostered goes to a particular home.

We are honest in our description of the dogs but often potential owners are not equally honest about their needs and circumstances. It is a heartbreaking truth that some dogs taken for adoption are returned - if the original foster is free we return the dog to that foster.

All veterinary costs are covered, all the dogs need from you is love and patience until they find their forever home.
