< Nollaig (Nolly) EXTREME CRUELTYThis is a joint venture between West Yorkshire Dog Rescue and The Little Dog Rescue. As an upsetting start to Christmas we rescued Nollaig from the stray dog pound. She is a puppy, probably less than 5 months old according to the vet, and the most emaciated dog we have ever seen. Nollaig is Irish Gaelic for Christmas and we named her to bring hope into her life and a prayer that she will survive. Nollaig is literally skin and bone, the photos just don't show how bad she is, every single bone in her body is outlined by skin with no muscle coverage. Her shoulder blades stick out, you can put the fingers of one hand around her neck, ribs, hips, even her thigh bone of her back legs stick out with no muscle. She is a young lurcher and stands 15 inches at the shoulder yet weighs a mere 6kgs, less that our Yorkshire Terrier Matt.. The vet said Nollaig has had a severe kick in her head which has damaged her left eye, leaving it swollen and cloudy. The vet is hoping for recovery with drops so that the eye won't have to be removed, fingers crossed. She has an abscess on the side of her face probably as a result of the blow. And yet she is the most affectionate dog you could ever meet, she just wants warmth, love and security. She hasn't got the strength to jump up to greet you but she cuddles up into your arms whenever you bend down. She loves other dogs and is cat friendly. Such a little sweetheart. Why is it that these dogs that have been so neglected and hurt are so forgiving of mankind's cruelty. A thought perhaps on our conduct at Christmas time. I know this time of year puts financial pressure on everyone but if you want to help please click here to donate
PLEASE NOTE NOLLAIG IS NOT YET READY TO REHOME SHE IS UNDER VET TREATMENT AND WILL BE FOR SOME TIME YET
< this photos shows her shoulder
< this photo shows her back leg and hip - that is bone you can see not muscle

< DarcyDarcy is a young Pedigree liver coloured Working Cocker Spaniel. She is incredibly affectionate and needs a lot of hugs and cuddles. She shows signs of past abuse so needs a lot of love and patience and you must never raise your voice to her or lift your hand or she cowers on the floor. Darcy needs a lot of exercise she loves running off lead in fields sniffing about for any small animals to chase. She doesn't pull on lead if she is given sufficient exercise. Darcy is dog friendly, good with children and loves everyone she meets. We are looking for a home where someone is around most of the time where she will be given all the exercise and love and companionship she needs. Darcy wants to be part of the family and around people at every opportunity. Because Darcy loves to cuddle up on the settee whilst you watch TV we are looking for a home where she will be allowed this close human contact and not just left in a room by herself or kept off the furniture. Please do not apply for this dog if you are house proud. Darcy is not used to living with young children and because of her past abuse we do not want her to live in a chaotic noisy household, but rather in a quiet, gentle home with kind adults. Neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped Contact Kathy 07711 617148Click HERE to register an interest in Darcy

< AniowekThis is a very big dog. Aniowek is Polish for Angel and this girl really is an Angel. Both her parents were known, she is a German Shepherd cross Labrador who has been in a loving home from a pup. I cannot emphasise enough what a lovely nature this girl has, I sat and cuddled her, she played ball with me and i fell in love with her. This is a really special girl, a soul mate. Aniowek is only 2 years old so still very lively and will need a lot of exercise and training. She pulls hard on the lead but has good recall off lead. Aniowek is a wonderful dog, she is very loyal, affectionate and faithful and has been brought up with 4 children since she was a puppy. Aniowek has the type of fur that sheds heavily so will be unsuitable for people with fur allergies or who are house proud. She will need daily grooming and an occasional bath to keep her in good condition. Aniowek is CAT FRIENDLY and even when she first arrived with the foster she ignored the cats. We are looking for someone with a large house and garden and owners who are strong, fit and active with big dog experience. Aniowek is too big and boisterous for young children although she would never harm any child, we are looking for an active teenage home for her. < KipKip is a very big Border Collie bred on a farm and has been in the same home from a puppy. This lovely 18 months old boy is a family pet, brought up with children. He is kind, affectionate, intelligent and obedient. Kip is well behaved in the house, can be left for 4 hours without chewing. Kipp is easy to live with. Kip pulls on the lead so needs a strong confident experienced owner, and his recall off lead needs improving. Kip is playful and loves attention, he is easily trained. Kip loves to cuddle up on the settee watching Tv and be part of the family. He needs close human contact in a loving home, he is not a dog to be shut in one room all the time or kept outside in a kennel. He is a loyal and faithful friend and will give his owners a lot of love. House proud people are not suitable for this dog he has long fur which will need regular brushing and he will shed hair. Kip gets on well with other dogs and although he has not lived with cats he is SCARED OF CATS so with patience someone could train him to accept cats We are looking for a family home where someone is around most of the time. A securely fenced garden is essential and sufficient room in the house as he is a big dog. Owners should be able to give him 4 good walks a day with playtime with other dogs. Experience with collies would be an advantage and an ability to train dogs kindly is essential as he needs a lot of training. Collies can live well into their teens so he has a long life ahead of him so a long term stable lifestyle is important as we are looking for a forever home for this chap. < MallyLife isn't perfect and boy does this little chap know it, he is so full of fears and stresses and is desperate for the right forever home where he will be loved and accepted for what he is. Mally is a Pedigree Yorkshire Terrier about 6 years old. He is a very quirky character who is distrustful of men and other dogs and this lack of socialisation means he has many issues therefore tremendous patience is required, which is why he has been passed from pillar to post through many homes all his life. We all have to accept Mally for what he is and stop saying he isn't good enough, he is in fact a little gem he is just scared. He is a calm and easy dog to live with but not used to young children so teenagers preferred. Mally is affectionate and sociable but has very sensitive skin so doesn't like to be stroked roughly, he prefers gentle cuddles and will snuggle up to watch TV. He follows you around like a little shadow he is a constant companion and pet. He loves playing in the garden with his toys and lying in the sun. Mally knows a whole range of verbal commands and is very obedient, he is clean and can live with a calm dog with no problem. He doesn't suffer separation anxiety when left alone and doesn't chew. He sleeps well at night and is quiet as a mouse. In the house he is so well behaved in every way it is just outside he meets his demons and loses the plot. Mally barks a lot when walking down the road, get very vocal and excited on walks and pulls on the lead. He barks at other dogs he meets when on the lead. It is best to avoid meeting other dogs as he gets so stressed. Mally will jump up men and bark and may nip when out on walks he gets very anxious around men. Mally is being fostered on a small holding with 6 other dogs of all sizes and runs around off lead happily with them all with no aggression or barking. He has good recall off lead. He lives happily with other dogs in the house. Mally would love to be in a home in the country away from the stress of lots of people and other dogs so he could have lots of room to run around and lots of walks in-between hugs and playing with his ball. This time the poor lad needs a forever home, with an experienced dog owner who really loves dogs. Neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms microchipped Contact Kathy 07711 617148Click HERE to register an interest in Mally

< Jess Ball DogJess is absolutely ball obsessed, and so easy to give her lots of exercise just stand on a hillside and chuck the ball and she will play as long as you like. Jess is a Jack Russell Terrier cross English Bull Terrier about 5
years old. She is only small, about the size of a corgi. She is fit
and healthy and very lively so you need to be active to keep up with
her. She will need lots of exercise and playtime and She is NOT cat friendly. Jess is well trained and obedient, doesn't pull on the lead. She will sit and give a paw, comes to have her lead on, fetches a ball back to your feet and drops it as if to ask for it to be thrown again. Although Jess is very good with children we do not want her to go to a home with children due to her past experience with them. This affectionate girl is well behaved in the house, easy to live
with and settles well if left alone for a few hours and in her bed
overnight. She travels well in the car without whining or being car
sick. Her coat is shiny and soft and she is very smart. Jess is
exceptionally intelligent and learns very fast. We have taken
advice from a behaviourist who says she must be trained with reward
based techniques and not Jess is fostered on a smallholding and doesn't chase horses or
free range hens. She is living with 9 other dogs of all types, ages,
shapes and sizes and gets on very well with them all. Jess is a playful, happy girl who will make a super companion and
pet and reward her new owner's kindness with fun times and Jess will make a wonderful pet and companion dog for a calm confident owner in a calm quiet home. She will not let a stranger into the house if the owner is not at home. This means we need a very experienced, confident owner. No children please although she loves them. < BillyBILLY IS NOW READY TO BE REHOMED Billy is a young adult Deerhound cross about 2 years old with the most superb temperament. He is slightly anxious around boisterous dogs and will growl but is relaxed and happy with steady dogs. He gets on well with little dogs his best friend is a Yorkshire Terrier. Billy has damage to the ligaments in his leg. Billy is fed either Salmon and Potato or Lamb and Rice complete biscuit, he gets tuna and salmon mixed in to give him the Omega oils so has really good skin and coat condition. This really is a super dog, a great companion and pet. Billy is very affectionate with everyone he meets, he is kind and gentle and an easy pet. He has been a very patient boy through all his treatment and has accepted with good grace the fact he has to have a lot of crate rest to protect his leg whilst it is healing. He doesn't suffer from separation anxiety if there is another dog in the house, he doesn't bark or howl, and he is house trained. He is an easy dog to live with and a stunningly handsome chap. We believe Billy has been used as a hunting dog he is very keen when he sees a rabbit in the field or cats or sheep. Billy CANNOT LIVE WITH CATS (please note he is good with small dogs, he is fostered with Matt the yorkie) Management of this dog. The vet has advised that Billy is never let off the lead . It would be beneficial to continue with Glucosamine tablets available from health food stores or vets, they are not expensive but will support the joint. When being walked around urban streets he must be muzzled in case he ever came across a cat because he would kill it. The muzzle could be removed if he was in an open space, but again, he must never let off lead. Because of this door control is essential he needs a home with responsible adults who will always keep outside doors shut. He cannot be left alone unattended in a garden if there is any possibility he could try and climb over the fence as that would re-break his leg so s garden fence of 8 foot would be needed before he could roam free. Also he could kill a cat entering the garden. It is not necessary to continually crate Billy but if a crate needs to be used that is OK as long as it is a minimum of 48 inches so a big house is needed. He has been on enforced crate rest whilst he has been healing so is very relaxed and happy as long as the crate is sufficiently large to accommodate him stretching right out which is essential as he must not be forced into a small crate which would continually flex his bad leg. We are looking for experienced, mature dog owners, with another quiet calm lurcher or greyhound type dog who will be a gentle companion for Billy. Billy has not lived with children but he has a superb nature so he can live with kind children over 10 years old, but door control is essential so responsible children needed. Big house and well fenced garden would be an advantage.. Neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped. He has had a full dental clean and polish with necessary extractions of the bed teeth. Rehome within 100 miles radius of West Yorkshire Click HERE to register an interest in Billy
