We assess the dogs in foster homes and are very honest about their behaviour, temperament and needs. Please read more on our Adoption Page

We are looking for forever homes for our dogs, so please read our dog profiles carefully. Before you contact us, please consult thoroughly with your family: you need to be certain that you can give the dog what it needs both now and for the rest of its life.

Sadly we see spiraling numbers of dogs who suffer terribly because their owners can't afford the lifelong care they need.   Keeping a dog is expensive (especially when they are ill or injured) so please do not apply for one of our dogs unless you are able to pay for it to be kept in the best of health.  We strongly suggest you take out INSURANCE to cover vets bills click HERE

WE DO NOT normally REHOME DOGS WHERE THERE ARE CATS OR CHILDREN UNDER 5 YRS.

DOGS MUST NEVER BE LEFT ALONE WITH CHILDREN.
for information about correctly managing dogs and children here are two good guides from the Kennel Club and Victoria Stilwell

The behaviour of dogs is improved using POSITIVE REWARD BASED TRAINING, FOR VIDEOS SHOWING PRACTICAL EXAMPLES CLICK HERE scroll down to see all 10

Dogs CANNOT be left alone for 8-9 hours.  SO IF YOU WORK FULL TIME we will not rehome a dog to you unless you employ a dog sitter or dog walker, and we recognise there is expense involved with providing this for the dog.  Here is a good example of a professional dog walker that we recommend in the Kirklees area DOGGYNANNY

If you are going on holiday within the next two months and cannot take a dog with you please apply for a dog on your return.  It's not fair to adopt a rescue dog that we have spent so much time and effort to settle and rehabilitate then dump it in kennels.

WE DO NOT SELL DOGS, however we ask for a Charitable donation to be provided on adoption to help towards keeping the rescue running.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT LET DOGS GO OUT "ON TRIAL". You may see the dogs as many times as you like before deciding whether or not to adopt.  Most rescue dogs have been through great stress and taking them home only to return them a short time later because owners change their minds would be cruel and damaging.  Dogs quickly form attachments and must not be returned as if they were mere objects.  So please, think very carefully and don't just take a dog on a whim.  As an adopter you should understand that it can take several weeks for a dog to settle into your home.  You must be prepared to commit to doing whatever is necessary to help your dog become a secure and happy family member. Our returns policy exists purely for those rare circumstances where a new owner is unavoidably unable to keep their new pet.

FINALLY - no dog in any rescue anywhere in the UK is a perfect dog.  If you want a PERFECT DOG we have the information you need to obtain one, please click PERFECT DOG

< from a Vet

I'm a Vet.  Some details changed or omitted for anonymity purposes.

Today a man brought his dog in to me.

The dog was a large, boisterous adolescent puppy. He hurtled into the room, bouncing up to me excitedly, wagging his tail all the time and nudging at my hand with his muzzle.  His big squishy paws crashed against my chest each time he paused to greet me, as he bounded around the room investigating all the smells.  He was an unusual cross, very striking to look at and obviously a bright and energetic dog. He was adorable.

The history went like this:

The dog had been bought as a tiny puppy by a couple who were told it was a "designer" cross between two specific small breeds.  Now, if the people who bought this puppy had had the slightest inkling about what they were doing it would have been immediately obvious to them that this was most certainly not a cross between two small breeds.  But anyway, they didn't have a clue so they bought the cute little puppy from this dubious source (probably at a cost of several hundred pounds) and took it back to their family home, complete with toddler.

The dog grew a bit and it became clear that it was actually going to be really big. It was bouncy, energetic and destructive. It kept racing around and knocking over their small child.  So they rehomed it to a family member.

The family member also had children but they were slightly bigger children.  The family member really wanted to do the right thing, so they tried to "discipline" the dog.  The dog began to show occasional signs of aggression and was completely hyperactive in the home, destructive and unmanageable.  I was not surprised to hear this, since it was obvious to me from this dog's heritage that it was the sort of dog which had significant needs in terms of exercise and stimulation.  In an attempt to magically resolve the issues the family member had the dog neutered. Which unsurprisingly made no difference.

Today the dog was brought in to be put to sleep. It had growled very aggressively when a child had put its face near his, and between this and an imminent change in circumstances the family member felt unable to manage the dog any more. He had tried local and national rescue organisations, all of which were full.  He had nobody to care for the dog overnight tonight.  He was not able to take the dog home, partly because of safety concerns and partly because the decision had been taken together as a family that it was the Right Thing To Do.

So I put this healthy, affectionate, vibrant dog to sleep while it munched on treats and the third owner in its short life cried into his fur.  Then when it was just me and the body of this poor puppy I had a good old cry myself.

I know there will be people who think I was right to put down a dog who has shown any signs of aggression under any circumstances. I disagree.

I know there will be people who think I was wrong to put down a dog when I could have taken it and found it a new home. I disagree.

I also know that there will be many many people who have no idea that this is happening all the time in this country because of irresponsible ignorant greedy people, selling dogs to irresponsible ignorant feckless people, who then pass them on to naive and thoughtless "rescuers" who eventually get to the end of their tether and bring them to me for euthanasia.  All the time.

These are the dogs who bite children in the home due to a total lack of knowledge, reasonable expectations and effort to socialise them adequately.

These are the dogs whose owners can afford four figure sums to buy the latest random mongrel "breed" with a stupid made-up name, but cannot afford fifty quid to get it vaccinated, far less any money at all to treat even minor illnesses.

These are the dogs who clog up rescue centres all over the country, waiting along with thousands and thousands of others for the home with no children, no other pets and eight-foot fences, with an owner who has experience of managing behavioural problems, works from home, has stainless steel furniture and can write blank cheques to pay for the inherited illnesses the dog suffers from. Homes which don't actually exist.

These are the dogs who I have to put down because I know that it is more responsible of me to painlessly take their life than to condemn them to wait with the rest of the enormous population of "difficult" dogs sitting in rescue kennels all over the country.

Please, please, I implore you.  Get advice before you take on a dog - from a vet, a qualified positive behaviorist, the Kennel Club, the Blue Cross, the Dog's Trust - the information is there for the taking, there is no excuse.  Go to a Rescue centre which really grills you thoroughly before matching you with a dog.  Find out how to bring your puppies up properly so if you do find your circumstances change then at least they are rehomable.  Make sure you can afford to pay for the unexpected.  Make sure your expectations are fair.

Please, because I can't keep having to do this.

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

VERY FRIENDLY AND CUDDLY

Needs lot of exercise, playtime and cuddles.  PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG UNLESS YOU HAVE TIME TO GIVE HIM 3 ONE HOUR WALKS EVERY DAY NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER.  PEOPLE WHO WORK FULL TIME NEED NOT APPLY THIS DOG NEEDS COMPANY AND ATTENTION.

Children over 7 years old

This is an absolutely brilliant extremely friendly little terrier who is a proper family pet.  He is such a great little companion and friend and everyone who meets him things he is a really super boy.  He is instantly affectionate even with strangers, and he will come over and put his head in your lap as soon as you go in the house.  Darling Buzz.

Dear little Buzz is really a busy little boy who loves to play and go for nice long walks.  He is a really fabulous family pet and has lived with children aged 5 and 9 years.  He is 4 years old but acts like a puppy.

Buzz loves his walks and needs a lot of exercise, he is very lively and boisterous.  Buzz lets the world know he is there, he loves to run and play and bark and he is such a huge personality and so full of fun.  He loves toys and will do anything for a treat.  He likes to chew on rawhide and Kong toys and Nyla bones which are specially hardened nylon designed for dogs.

Such a friendly, kind, happy little chap.  When visitors arrive Buzz is the first to introduce himself with a huge grin and waggy tail, "please fuss me" is what he says !!!!  He is just totally adorable.

Buzz is so excited about going for a walk he pulls on the lead and his recall is variable depending on what else there is to go and look at, chase and explore - typical terrier personality.

Buzz has a rough coat but it is not suitable for people who are allergic to dogs because it does shed a bit when the weather starts to get warmer.  He is not a big dog, he is a handy size to lift over styles on a country walk and in and out of the car to go to exciting places.

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

Buzz is well behaved in the house and sleeps in the kitchen at night with no fuss or problems.  He has not been used to travelling in the car but has been on busses and is well behaved although he does get a bit frightened when the bus gets full and big lorries go past making a lot of noise.

Buzz would prefer someone around to give him lots of attention because he just adores lots of cuddles and love..  In his previous home Buzz was left for long hours and this doesn't really suit him unless he has a huge amount of exercise, he would need 3 one hour walks, an hour before you go to work, an hour middle of the day and an hour when you arrive home from work.  If he is left many hours he sometimes has housetraining accidents but that is only if it is over 8 hours which isn't fair on him.  Apart from that he is perfectly clean.

Buzz is such a sweet, friendly boy and a great pet and companion.  He's not keen on all dogs but gets on with most.  He prefers smaller dogs and tends to bark at bigger dogs.

Buzz lived with a cat in his previous home but he has not really socialised with it much as the cat kept away from Buzz.  To be safe we prefer a home without cats.

Lovely, cuddly, affectionate Buzz just needs the best home ever, he really deserves the best and we are looking for a family with lifestyle and financial security who can really offer him a wonderful forever home where he will be treasured and loved forever.

TRUE DOG LOVERS NEEDED FOR CHANCE.

Chance is a shy, nervous, quiet dog who needs a peaceful home with gentle owners.  He loves a couple of short walks a day and time in the garden.  HE NEEDS SOMEONE AROUND MOST OF THE TIME.

CHANCE ABSOLUTELY ADORES MEN

Chance was saved from the Stray Dog Pound.  No-one wanted Chance, no one took any notice of Chance, he lay in his bed at the back of the kennel and the world walked by.

Until we came along and decided to take a chance on Chance.  We hope you will too.

Chance is Whippet cross Beagle about 8 years old according to the vet.  He is just below knee height and a very slender, lightweight build.

Chance is obviously a dog who has formed a very deep attachment to someone who he lost and Chance is not a dog who just gives his love to anyone at any time, he has to have time to form a bond.  We know that people coming to view him may be disappointed that he isn't jumping all over them wanting a cuddle.  We hope people will understand and see through this and realise that he will become a very loving, loyal and faithful friend.

Chance is being fostered by a man.

Update from the foster  7 Feb

Chance  is a quiet boy, spending the majority of his time curled up next to the fire. He seems to be very nervous with new people. He has come around to me and my dad now but doesn't come over to be fussed like most dogs. I often sit on his bed with him and give him a stroke just to let him know humans aren't all that bad.

Chance is underweight, probably due to stress, but he will soon pick up because a good eater and enjoys his treats.  He loves being outside and takes ages to come back in from the garden, we just give him his own time to potter in and out as he pleases

Chance is not really an old dog, he certainly can run and is an escape artist who will push past you to get out of the door so the front garden needs to be securely fenced or he will be out on the road and killed by a car.

Chance is slender, he weighs 15kg - you can get an idea of his small size with the picture of him lying on the bed with 3 terriers .

This is a really quiet, gentle boy and fine with the dogs, he did have a nice run around with Tinks yesterday.  Mr Binx has snapped a few times, he is just a jealous boy but right now he is curled up on the bed with Chance because Chance hasn't responded at all to Mr Binx snapping.

Chance likes his walks but is reluctant to get in the car so must be picked up and lifted in

I don't think he likes the crate, he seemed to be barking in the back of the car in the crate and apparently didn't stop barking at the vets.

Chance has formed a very strong bond with my Dad and just wants to be near him and cuddle him all the time, he gets distressed when Dad goes to work.

Chance loves human company and needs someone around most of the time.  He sometimes barks when left even if he has other dogs for companions.

He is fully housetrained and sleeps all the way through the night and will happily sleep in his own bed or on the floor.  I spoilt him and he slept with me on my bed last night.

Update from the foster 3 March

Chance is settling much better into a home environment now. His separation anxiety is starting to settle down and now when left he will just curl onto my bed and sleep.  In his new home it may take him a while getting used to being left again and he needs someone who has patience to accept his initial anxiety.   Also someone who doesn't mind him sleeping on their bed.

Although he can be left it would be best if this was left to a minimum.  He needs someone who is around most of the time to earn his trust and make him feel comfortable.  It takes a while for Chance to put trust in people, however once he has gained his trust he is an extremely loyal boy who will follow you anywhere so again a patient owner will be needed who understands even if he is a little scared at first he will soon come out of his shell and enjoy a cuddle.

The best way to gain Chances' trust is taking him on plenty of walks.  He loves being out on a walk and will get giddy and prance around as soon as he sees his harness.  He walks very well on the lead and does not pull at all.  He doesn't react to other dogs on the lead and is very curious about the world around him.  We don't think Chance can ever be let off lead, he has selective hearing and as he is nervous could easily be spooked but to Chance a walk on the lead is just as good!

Chance likes to sleep on my bed at night and will dig under the covers and cuddle right up. He sleeps all the way through the night and still stays in bed when I get up to let our other dog Sally out in the middle of the night.

He is very well behaved and although he has no basic training in terms of sitting for treats and recall he is fully housetrained and when he does get a treat he takes it from your hands very gently.

During the day Chance loves to curl up and sleep on his big bed in front of the fire and doesn't mind when the other dogs come and sit next to/on him. Chance would be fine being rehomed as an only dog, however may do well with another older quiet dog to bring him out of his shell and improve his confidence.

Chance  will suit a quiet house with a secure garden he can potter around in, a few short walks a day.  He would be brilliant with an older couple who are around most of the time to keep Chance company.  It would be good for Chance to live with another kind dog.

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

We've given him a Chance, we need someone else to do the same.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF BOTH PARTNERS IN THE FAMILY WORK FULL TIME.

Neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped.  Chance has also had a full dental clean and polish and a few rotten teeth extracted.

< Lucy

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

GENTLE, AFFECTIONATE, A KIND SWEET GIRL. Lucy needs someone around most of the time and another gentle, confident, dog friendly dog to live with as she would learn from that dog how to be more confident with other dogs.

EXPERIENCED DOG OWNER NEEDED

Adorable small young whippet girl named Lucy with a lovely kind, gentle nature.  Currently very thin but healthy.

Lucy is good with other dogs but she has been attacked recently and hurt by a dog so is now very anxious around dogs..  She sometimes barks at dogs when she is on the lead because she feels constrained and anxious if they come near her but she is not dog aggressive.  However, if she lives in a home with other dogs she would need to to be fed separately as she is so thin she is very anxious around food and will snap at other dogs.  She doesn't snap at people.

Super to walk, very good girl, needs to wear a coat outdoors and indoor at night as she really feels the cold.

Lucy is good off lead in a fenced field, she loves to run and will come back when called once she has had a run.  She enjoys playing ball and running with it in her mouth.

Lucy is house trained and well behaved in the house, she likes to snuggle up on the sofa so if you are not happy with that please don't apply for her.

NO CATS PLEASE

Lucy will need a securely fenced garden as she is capable of jumping very high.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF BOTH PARTNERS IN THE FAMILY WORK FULL TIME.

Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms.

< Sushi

This dog is with Friends of Akitas Rescue

CAT FRIENDLY HAS LIVED WITH CATS

This is an absolutely super dog, loves everyone and everything she meets, a true family pet, companion and best friend.  Please don't overlook her just because of the bad press about the breed.

Sushi needs calm, quiet owners who are capable of handling a big dog, who can offer a forever home with long term financial and lifestyle security.

Sushi is a 5 years old Japanese Akita.  This breed is often overlooked due to bad press but it is a breed that is loyal, docile, intelligent and very affectionate with it's own family.  Akitas are good guard dogs and very protective over children within their own family.  Akitas do not like being teased and pulled around by children, so sensible dog-wise children are needed who understand how to treat dogs with kindness and respect.  Akitas are strong willed and need experienced, calm owners to treat them fairly.  They are physically strong so need fit, active owners.  Akitas can live to 14-15 years if well cared for and fed good quality diet.

Sushi is a very friendly dog who loves to have a fuss.  She is a calm, relaxed girl who shows no signs of toy or food guarding.

Sushi is CAT FREINDLY

Sushi absolutely loves other dogs, she is timid but never aggressive, she loves to play and would be good living with another kind playful male dog.

Sushi is good with children and is currently living with a baby but we will let her go to a home with children over 10 years old please.

Sushi is very good in the house, she travels well in the car and loves to go out and about with you.

Sushi just wants to be a part of the family, she loves human company but she can be left a few hours so would suit a part time worker.

Sushi doesn't pull on the lead and is good off lead especially if given treats when she returns.  She spends 80% of her walks off lead.

For a brilliant all-round family pet, Sushi is the girl for you.  Please make her smile today and register an interest.

We are looking for a forever home with long term stability, financial security, big dog experience, a big enough house and car and well fenced garden.

PLEASE OBTAIN FULL FAMILY COMMITMENT TO DOG OWNERSHIP BEFORE YOU PHONE US

Please do not apply for this dog if you work long hours and intend to leave the dog without having enough time to give it loads of playtime and attention and three good long walks each day no matter what the weather.

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

PLEASE ensure your car is big enough to travel the dog in comfort and safety without being squashed in causing it to feel cramped and claustrophobic

Boudicea in a medium dog bed to show how tiny she is

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

Boudicea is a tiny teacup Yorkshire Terrier about the size of a guinea pig.  She is a little dog with a HUGE personality. She loves everyone she meets and is very good with dogs.

Boudicea is being fostered on a small holding where she runs 4- 5 hours each day around the fields.  She will need a lot of exercise in her new home so just letting her in a big garden is simply not enough.  It would be great if she went to a home with igger dogs who already get a lot of exercise.  If she gets tired she is so small you can pick her up she weighs next to nothing.

We are looking for a home with long term lifestyle and financial stability where she will be treated like a proper dog and given a really interesting life with lots of love.

< Blind Basil Brush

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

FULL OF LOVE AND KINDNESS HE IS A VERY GOOD BOY.

Basil lives in a black world, he needs a lot of patience, another dog to guide him and play with him, a stable, secure, loving home and lots of walks.  BASIL MUST LIVE WITH ANOTHER KIND DOG.

Despite being blind, Basil is just like any other dog and copes very well with his disability.

Basil is a very sweet affectionate dog who loves everyone he meets.  Older sensible teenage children who are very sensible would be OK but not youngsters.

Basil is very healthy and in beautiful condition loves his food and needs high quality food.  He has a lovely shiny coat and is at the right weight.

He really enjoys being cuddled.

Basil loves his walks on his lead, he roots around in the bushes for stuff to chase and he loves being out and about investigating everything with his nose.  He needs to be kept on a lead or he will get lost, but can happily run around the garden with the other dogs.

Basil travels well in the car, sleeps in his bed downstairs at night, is good to bath and brush, and is a very kind companion and pet.

Basil is exceptionally intelligent, he copes well with his blindness.  He is "clicker trained" and does everything he s told.  He is a good boy to sit on the grooming table and be groomed every day and his coat is silky, clean and shiny.

Basil has a disability device he can wear called a Halo which stops him bumping into things.  He is now just like any other dog, very social with dogs and people, very loving and affectionate, and with his new Halo he doesn't bump into things so can run around all day without hurting himself.

Basil can be allowed to run round the safety of a fenced garden off lead but when walked outside he needs to be on lead.

Basil needs a home with another dog, a garden to play in, someone around most of the time and long term stability as this must be his forever home.  Basil will be your cuddle monster and best forever friend.

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

<  Bandit

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

STUNNING DOG FROM INTELLIGENT PARENTS

A wonderfully kind, gentle, affectionate pup who needs a lot of time and patience.

Bandit is a Flat Coat Retriever cross Collie 7 months old. He has come from a background where he didn't go out and about much so he has a slightly shy temperament and new experiences make him slightly nervous and confused.  Therefore he will need a calm, confident owner and another dog to give him confidence and companionship.

Bandit is being fostered on a small holding with lots of dogs of all types and sizes, so every day with the foster is making him more confident.  He plays happily with other dogs and never shows any aggression.

BANDIT NEEDS A LOT OF EXERCISE

Bandit is kind and gentle and would never hurt anyone.  He is a lovely boy who needs a kind gentle owner, as he gets extremely anxious and upset if you very slightly raise your voice to him.

Bandit is very intelligent, he has learned to fit in and play well, he wants to learn and wants to please.

In the house Bandit was initially very anxious about being left in the kitchen once humans were out of the room despite the fact he had numerous quiet, non anxious dogs as companions.  It has only taken him a couple of weeks to realise it is not the end of the world if humans leave the room and he settles in his bed quietly especially if the radio is on,

Bandit is only a puppy and still teething so needs lots of rawhide chews to keep him occupied and his teeth well used.

Bandit is house trained as long as he is let out regularly.

Bandit is just above knee high, he would suit an active home with another dog, where he won't be left alone for long and where owners will have enough time and patience to train him kindly.

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

Nelson lived with a cat, here they are below looking out the window together

< Nelson

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

A LOVELY LITTLE MAN WITH A BIG HEART AND LOADS OF LOVE TO GIVE REALLY NEEDS FOREVER OWNERS TO CALL HIS OWN.

Nelson needs an experienced owner, he is anxious around other dogs until he gets to know that they will not hurt him.  Nelson loves children and is cat friendly.  Totally adorable little man !!!!

Nelson is a Jack Russell 2 years old who is a very active, bouncy boy with a really affectionate nature.  He needs a lot of stimulation and attention and loves going for long walks.

Nelson would be Ok with someone working part time and leaving him a few hours.

Nelson is the most adorable pet and companion, he is just so cute and a wonderful friend.

Nelson is anxious when meeting new dogs, he barks and whines and will snap if they come close to protect himself.  He is simply afraid that new dogs may hurt him.  However after a few minutes of running around off lead he is very happy and friendly if they are friendly with him.

Nelson is fostered with 6 other dogs and spends hours each day running round the foster's small holding and having a great time playing with all the dogs.  He is such a cheerful character you can't help but smile at his antics.

Nelson is brilliant with children, in his previous home he has lived with two 5-10 years old and played happily with them.

Nelson lived with cats he is CAT FRIENDLY

Nelson is a little overweight at the moment but it doesn't slow him down much, he will easily get fitter over time.

Nelson loves travelling in the car and going out and about with you.

He has a passport for foreign travel.

Nelson is your best friend, all he wants is someone that he can love.  .

< Blue

Blue needs a home with puppy experience, a lot of time and another playful young adult dog as a companion.

This cheeky boy was found as a stray before coming into rescue.

Blue is approximately 6 months old, and is a lovely, big bouncy pup who has had no training, has no manners, but is young enough to learn quickly.

Blue travels well in the car, is reasonably clean in his kennel but is unlikely to be fully housetrained and will need someone around most of the time to give him routine and get this training established.

When Blue meets other dogs he runs up to them very excitedly, so would benefit from living with another large dog to teach him good manners and keep him company.

NO CATS PLEASE

As we know nothing of Blue's background we will only rehome with children over 7 years of age.  As he is bouncy he would most likely accidentally knock little ones over.

Blue is just a blank canvas for anybody wanting to train a young puppy.  He is a cuddle bear of a dog, who we think is going to be quite a large dog

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

PLEASE ensure your car is big enough to travel the dog in comfort and safety without being squashed in causing it to feel cramped and claustrophobic

THIS DOG MUST LIVE INDOORS NOT A KENNEL IN THE GARDEN

Neutered, vaccinated.

Currently in kennels in Preston, Lancashire waiting for a forever home.

< Boomer

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

A SWEET PUP WHO NEEDS A LOT OF LOVE. MUST GO WITH ANOTHER DOG

Boomer needs a very experienced, calm, patient owner with a lot of time to give him attention and exercise and another bigger dog as a companion.

Boomer is a 6 months old Parson Jack Russell who is a very active, inquisitive boy who will need loads of exercise and attention.  Boomer is a happy little chap but like all puppies he will try your patience and need a lot of love.

We are looking for an active home with someone around most f the time who can give him loads of attention.  He would really benefit from living with another bigger dog who can play with him.

Boomer is anxious when meeting new people and wont always just let strangers stroke him.

Boomer has not had a good start in life and has not been socialised with dogs so he is fostered with 7 dogs on a small holding to get him accustomed to them and how to play.

Boomer needs a home where he can get a lot of "off lead" interaction with dogs.  This is because he needs to be able to choose himself whether he approaches dogs, or whether he runs away from them.  Gradually over time his confidence builds up and he can learn how to greet dogs without being afraid.

Once he has been with a dog for a few minutes his anxiety reduces and he will play happily, the photos show him playing with a young German Shepherd cross.

If he is handled the wrong way at this puppy stage in his life he will be ruined forever.  Therefore a calm, experienced dog owner is needed with the maturity and intelligence of how to handle the situation and gain his confidence rather than destroying it.

Terrier experience would be valuable, he is not a dog for the first time dog owner as he will need a lot of commitment, an ability to kindly train young dogs, and definitely a sense of humour as all he wants to do is play and have fun.

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF BOTH PARTNERS IN THE FAMILY WORK FULL TIME.

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

Click here to see a video of Vikki  playing

< Vikki Snuggle-Bug

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

THE SIZE OF A RABBIT

VERY AFFECTIONATE SHE WILL PROTECT YOU WITH HER LIFE.

We are looking for a very kind, patient, gentle owner with a bigger non terrier type of dog who really understands dogs and really loves dogs.

Vikki is a  tiny Jackhuahua which is a Jack Russell cross Chihuahua.  She is about the size of a rabbit.  Vikki is a very affectionate dog with the people she knows and once she has been introduced to strangers she is very friendly.  You can pick her up and cuddle her and she is so loveable.  She guards the house and garden and will nip the postman but she never snaps at  people she knows.  The foster handles her very kindly and gently as she is such a tiny dog and may be easily scared.  Vikki is given loads of encouragement by the foster when she does the right thing and she really responds well to praise.   She is a really sweet little girl and so easy to fall in love with her.

This is an easy dog to own and live with, but you need to have your wits about you and be sensible and intelligent about the way you handle her and manage her..

Vikki is one year old, she is adorable, and very well behaved in the house.  She is house trained, not destructive as long as she is given rawhide chews, can be left alone for short periods if she has another companion dog.  Vikki travels well in the car and loves to go out and about with you wherever you go.

VVIKKI IS NERVOUS WHEN FIRST MEETING DOGS BUT AT HER SIZE SHE DOES NOT DAMAGE WHEN SHE SNAPS AT THEM, SHE WILL NEED SOMEONE CONFIDENT ABOUT SOCIALISING HER WITH OTHER DOGS.

She needs someone around most of the time and no kids.  We are looking for an owner who is good with dogs and understands terriers.

NO CATS PLEASE

Vikki has been given loads of frequent walks, she is good off lead unless there are rabbits to chase, she currently gets 3-4 hours each day between 7am and 10pm divided into many short walks.  Vikki is now incredibly fit and has good strong muscles.  She is  in superb condition according to the vet.

Vikki feels the cold so the photo shows her wearing her blue pajamas under her sheepskin coat whilst in her fur padded bed in her crate.  Then she wears an overcoat on top when she goes outside !!!

This dog would walk the Pennine Way no problem !!!  She would suit active outdoor owners who really like to be out in the countryside.  We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

  • this dog will nip the heels of strangers such as the postman or maintenance workers so needs to be carefully controlled until she knows them/li>
  • anxious when meeting new dogs, barks at dogs when on lead
  • no children
  • can live with a gentle dog but not another terrier type as terriers often fight
  • no cats
  • terrier experience valuable
  • needs lots of exercise
  • good quality diet needed she has a sensitive stomach
  • crate trained
  • housetrained
  • must wear a coat or two when outside as she feels the cold
  • very affectionate and bonds strongly with her owner

We are looking for an active home with someone around most of the time, and long term lifestyle and financial stability.

The garden must be fenced and secure.

Please do not apply unless you have many years of experience with rescue dogs who have issues

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

< Reggie - Flyball dog !!!!!

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

PLEASE READ THIS ADVERT CAREFULLY, SERIOUS ENQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE.

Reggie has performed well at Flyball and although he obviously needs a lot of training, he has proved a very good prospect for this sport.

This is a proper terrier, and terrier experience would be a definite advantage. Reggie needs loads of exercise and mental stimulation. He has a sensitive stomach so will need expensive, good quality food.

Reggie is a 9 months old Patterdale with a touch of Yorkshire Terrier in him.  He is a big terrier, about 15 inches at the shoulder.  This is the most active, sensitive, needy dog in our rescue at the moment and really needs a special home.  He needs a huge amount of exercise, he needs to run off lead and play especially with bigger dogs.

Currently the foster gives him a total of 3 hours walks per day spread out between 7.30am until 9.30pm so he gets a lot of mental and physical stimulation.  Reggie is good on the lead but has poor recall off lead.  So the foster is letting him off lead very frequently to train him good recall and he is definitely improving over time.  He is only a pup and will learn quickly.

Reggie was in a right bad way when we got him into the rescue and was sick with infection that has now cleared up. He needs to be fed good quality food as he has a very sensitive stomach.
Reggie would make a super Flyball / Agility dog as he is incredibly fast and intelligent.

The foster has started clicker training and he proves to learn very quickly, he is well motivated to please and will do anything for a treat. He just loves doing new things, going new places, meeting new dogs and people. He is on the go all the time, a busy, active little man.

Reggie is dog friendly, he is fostered with lots of little dogs. However he prefers the rough and tumble of playing with big dogs out and about.

Reggie is a very kind affectionate dog but he is unknown with children so sensible teenagers please as we know he would react badly to being pulled around by toddlers.

Reggie needs a calm, confident, experienced owner because he can sometimes get stressed. He would be good living with a young big dog for companionship and to ensure he gets enough exercise and play..

Reggie is CAT FRIENDLY

Reggie is not 100% housetrained but is much improved from when he first came. He sleeps in the crate to keep him calm and he is happy there.

EXPENSIVE TO KEEP !!! Reggie needs regular visits to the groomer to keep his fur trim and the cost of this plus the expensive food must be factored into the cost of owning him. We are looking for a home with long term financial and lifestyle security to offer Reggie a permanent forever home.

NO RABBITS, GUINEA PIGS, CHICKENS, DUCKS.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF BOTH PARTNERS IN THE FAMILY WORK FULL TIME.

Neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped. Been to the groomer, bathed, clipped and ready to go.

< Suzie

This gorgeous girl is with UK German Shepherd Rescue.

ThisThis little lady is Suzie, who was found as a stray and is now in our care. She is such a happy dog, with a very waggy tail as she is so pleased to meet you.

Suzie is only young, possibly around 18mths old, and has the friendliest temperament ever seen She is NOT BIG, only the size of a Collie.

She is clean in her kennel, so most likely housetrained. She travelled well to the kennels in the car, with no sickness.

Suzie is German Shepherd possibly crossed with a Husky, but she is quite small in size. She is so very pretty and in good condition with a shiny coat and clean teeth.  Being a cross breed she is healthier than a pedigree.

She is desperate for love and attention, and loves company of humans.  She is a proper pet and companion.

She seems fine with other dogs at the kennels, but not so sure of small dogs.

Cats unknown so NO CATS PLEASE

As we know nothing of Suzie's background, we wont rehome her with children under 7 years of age.

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

< Benson

This dog is with Friends of Akitas Rescue

Benson can live with other female dogs as he is a friendly chap with no aggression.  He has lived with children and is very child friendly.

Benson is an extremely kind, very gentle Akita aged 9 years.  He is not a very big Akita compared with some Akitas.

Benson has been kept outside in a kennel as his owner became severely allergic to him.  He is well trained and knows most commands and makes a lovely pet and companion who just wants loads of cuddles.

Benson is friendly towards dog of all shapes and sizes and could live with a female dog.  He shows no sign of toy or food possession and just has no aggression.

Benson is unknown with cats but we strongly recommend no cats.

Benson is a much loved dog, he travels well in the car and wants to be out and about with you.  He is a loyal and intelligent dog that just wants his own forever home now as he has been waiting so long.

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

< BB Bobby small holding needed

BB Bobby NEEDS TO LIVE ON A SMALL HOLDING WITH OTHER DOGS, where he is free to run about and in and out of the house.  He cannot stand the stress of constantly having a harness put on to go for a walk, as handling him really makes him nervous and he goes straight into self defense mode and becomes snappy.

BB Bobby is extremely affectionate once he gains your trust and as long as you limit the handling to a minimum he will never bite.  However if he becomes scared when you are handling him he will snap.  If you don't handle him he can't bite you.

BB Bobby has bonded closely with his foster and is very loyal and loving.  He is wonderful off lead, doesn't run away, comes when called.  He is such a happy little dog when not being handled and enjoys long walks off lead around the fields so much.

BB Bobby is VERY DOG FRIENDLY.  He gets on with every dog he meets, he is never aggressive or snappy with dogs and he loves to play tug of war or chase around with dogs.

Due to the hot weather we took BB Bobby to the vet to be sedated and had his fur clipped very short.  Not only does this keep him cool as he loves to run around the fields and gets overheated, but it is  now easier to read the expression on his face and avoid him if he becomes alarmed and therefore likely to snap.

2 years old, good on lead, excellent recall off lead, good in the car.  Excellent with dogs, unknown with cats.  Excellent to bath and groom.

Bobby loves going for long country walks with the other dogs he is fostered with and then curls up on the sofa or in his bed by the fire and you honestly don't know you have got him.

This little dog doesn't ask for much, just a warm safe place to sleep, nice walks, another dog for company and lots of playtime and exercise.   For patient people it is not a big deal owning him, he is such a sweetheart, you just have to see things from his point of view and understand his background and fears.

The foster is now very well able to explain what triggers his fear biting, and how to handle him and manage him to keep him happy and prevent him getting scared.  If he is not scared and feels secure in his home he is a wonderful pet.  He just needs someone nice.

NO CATS PLEASE

< Diva

This dog is with Friends of Akitas Rescue

Diva needs calm, quiet owners who are capable of handling a big dog, who can offer a forever home with long term financial and lifestyle security.

Diva is a 3 years old American Akita.

Diva is a friendly and inquisitive dog and she loves to have a fuss.  She is a calm, relaxed girl who shows no signs of toy or food guarding.

NO CATS PLEASE Diva cannot live with cats.

Diva can live with another kind calm male dog.

Diva has not been assessed with children.

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

< Sky

Sky is with UK German Shepherd Rescue.

We are appealing for a very special home for our lovely Sky.

Sky is only around 3 yrs old, but has problems with her hips & hocks, which mean she will only be mobile for a few years.  Her Xrays show bone overgrowth and the vet has informed us there is no option for surgery.

So Sky needs a special home, who will exercise her regularly but not over do it.  She would not be able to do hilly walks, or long hikes.  She would benefit greatly from swimming, and the rescue will pay for 2 hydrotherapy sessions per month for her for life.  Her weight needs to be kept low, and she would benefit from supplements such as Yumove, green lipped mussel, and glucosamine & chondroitin.

Sky is a happy girl, who rarely needs pain relief, but will need it more as time goes on.  Worst case scenario in approx 2yrs time , she wont be able to hold her back end up.  Best case scenario she will potter around for a couple of years and hopefully reach 7 or 8 yrs old.   We simply don't know.

Sky has so much love to give.  She adores children.  She is fine with other dogs.  She is housetrained, travels well, and really enjoys the walks she does.  Her recall is good.

NO CATS PLEASE

Please can somebody open their hearts to this lovely girl, and cherish her for the rest of her days? THE SKY IS THE LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF LOVE SHE WILL GIVE YOU.
