We assess the dogs in foster homes and are very honest about their behaviour, temperament and needs. Please read more on our Adoption Page

We are looking for forever homes for our dogs, so please read our dog profiles carefully. Before you contact us, please consult thoroughly with your family: you need to be certain that you can give the dog what it needs both now and for the rest of its life.

Sadly we see spiraling numbers of dogs who suffer terribly because their owners can't afford the lifelong care they need.   Keeping a dog is expensive (especially when they are ill or injured) so please do not apply for one of our dogs unless you are able to pay for it to be kept in the best of health.  We strongly suggest you take out INSURANCE to cover vets bills click HERE

WE DO NOT normally REHOME DOGS WHERE THERE ARE CATS OR CHILDREN UNDER 5 YRS.

DOGS MUST NEVER BE LEFT ALONE WITH CHILDREN.
for information about correctly managing dogs and children here are two good guides from the Kennel Club and Victoria Stilwell

The behaviour of dogs is improved using POSITIVE REWARD BASED TRAINING, FOR VIDEOS SHOWING PRACTICAL EXAMPLES CLICK HERE scroll down to see all 10

Dogs CANNOT be left alone for 8-9 hours.  SO IF YOU WORK FULL TIME we will not rehome a dog to you unless you employ a dog sitter or dog walker, and we recognise there is expense involved with providing this for the dog.  Here is a good example of a professional dog walker that we recommend in the Kirklees area DOGGYNANNY

If you are going on holiday within the next two months and cannot take a dog with you please apply for a dog on your return.  It's not fair to adopt a rescue dog that we have spent so much time and effort to settle and rehabilitate then dump it in kennels.

WE DO NOT SELL DOGS, however we ask for a Charitable donation to be provided on adoption to help towards keeping the rescue running.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT LET DOGS GO OUT "ON TRIAL". You may see the dogs as many times as you like before deciding whether or not to adopt.  Most rescue dogs have been through great stress and taking them home only to return them a short time later because owners change their minds would be cruel and damaging.  Dogs quickly form attachments and must not be returned as if they were mere objects.  So please, think very carefully and don't just take a dog on a whim.  As an adopter you should understand that it can take several weeks for a dog to settle into your home.  You must be prepared to commit to doing whatever is necessary to help your dog become a secure and happy family member. Our returns policy exists purely for those rare circumstances where a new owner is unavoidably unable to keep their new pet.

Prior to visiting our dogs you need to carefully consider a number of issues, please read before applying click HERE

FINALLY - no dog in any rescue anywhere in the UK is a perfect dog.  If you want a PERFECT DOG we have the information you need to obtain one, please click PERFECT DOG

< Blind Basil

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

FULL OF LOVE AND KINDNESS HE IS A VERY GOOD BOY.

Basil lives in a black world, he needs a lot of patience, another dog to guide him and play with him, a stable, secure, loving home and lots of walks.  BASIL MUST LIVE WITH ANOTHER KIND DOG.

Despite being blind, Basil is just like any other dog and copes very well with his disability.

Basil is a very sweet affectionate dog who loves everyone he meets.  Older sensible teenage children who are very sensible would be OK but not youngsters.

Basil is very healthy and in beautiful condition loves his food and needs high quality food.  He has a lovely shiny coat and is at the right weight.

He really enjoys being cuddled.

Basil loves his walks on his lead, he roots around in the bushes for stuff to chase and he loves being out and about investigating everything with his nose.  He needs to be kept on a lead or he will get lost, but can happily run around the garden with the other dogs.

Basil travels well in the car, sleeps in his bed downstairs at night, is good to bath and brush, and is a very kind companion and pet.

Basil is exceptionally intelligent, he copes well with his blindness.  He is "clicker trained" and does everything he s told.  He is a good boy to sit on the grooming table and be groomed every day and his coat is silky, clean and shiny.

Basil has a disability device he can wear called a Halo which stops him bumping into things.  He is now just like any other dog, very social with dogs and people, very loving and affectionate, and with his new Halo he doesn't bump into things so can run around all day without hurting himself.

Basil can be allowed to run round the safety of a fenced garden off lead but when walked outside he needs to be on lead.

Basil needs a home with another dog, a garden to play in, someone around most of the time and long term stability as this must be his forever home.  Basil will be your cuddle monster and best forever friend.

GENTLE, AFFECTIONATE, A KIND SWEET GIRL. Lucy needs someone around most of the time and another gentle, confident, dog friendly dog to live with as she would learn from that dog how to be more confident with other dogs.

EXPERIENCED DOG OWNER NEEDED

Adorable small young whippet girl named Lucy with a lovely kind, gentle nature.  Currently very thin but healthy.

Lucy is not good with other dogs but she has been attacked recently and hurt by a dog so is now very anxious around dogs.  She barks at dogs when she is on the lead because she feels constrained and anxious if they come near her.  However the training is progressing and she is improving.

Super to walk, very good girl, needs to wear a coat outdoors and indoor at night as she really feels the cold.

Lucy is good off lead in a fenced field, she loves to run and will come back when called once she has had a run.  She enjoys playing ball and running with it in her mouth.

Lucy is house trained and well behaved in the house, she likes to snuggle up on the sofa so if you are not happy with that please don't apply for her.

< Alvin - a tiny dog with big attitude !!!

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

ALVIN NEEDS A LOT OF EXERCISE.  We need experienced owners who know what they are doing with dogs.

This beautiful baby Pedigree Chihuahua is a tiny dog with a big, bold character !!!! He is just one year old, he is just a baby and so enjoys playing.

Alvin loves small dogs but is nervous around big dogs so he attacks them if they come near him, so he needs to be kept away fro big dogs

NO BIG DOGS PLEASE.

Alvin is currently fostered with 6 small dogs, a mixture of males and females.  He is often bossy with male dogs and guards his toys and bed, however he gets on best with slightly larger female dogs.

Alvin would be best rehomed either with a female dog with a very placid nature, or as an only dog.  Either way he likes a lot of attention.

Alvin is very kind and affectionate, he needs lots of walks, love and attention.  You should see him run through the fields off lead, he can go for miles.

Alvin has a coat that needs regular grooming so the owners must be prepared to spend time doing this to prevent it matting up and being uncomfortable.

Alvin is well behaved in the house, fully house trained, sleeps well at night with no barking or whining.  He doesn't travel well in the car and is car sick on long journeys but he will grow out of this.

NO CHILDREN PLEASE, HE HATES THEM.

We are looking for the following home

  • someone around most of the time
  • another playful small dog as a companion
  • no children
  • experienced, kind dog owners
  • an active home where he will get a lot of exercise
  • not on a main road, and places he can be walked off road as he doesn't like traffic
  • can be walked where he will NEVER meet big dogs
  • secure fenced garden
  • long term lifestyle and financial security

PLEASE DON'T APPLY IF BOTH PARTNERS WORK FULL TIME, LOTS OF TIME, PATIENCE AND EXERCISE NEEDED.

Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms.

< Katie

Katie is with UK German Shepherd Rescue.

This beautiful lady is Katie who we think is about 4 years old.

Up until last month Katie was a stray living on the streets of Romania in fear of her life daily, until a kind lady decided to save Katie and send her here in the UK to see if any rescue could help?

Katie had been being fed by some locals and she was a friendly girl but the locals decided they no longer wanted her around and called the authorities. Thankfully a kind lady stepped in and rescued her and she was given all her vaccinations, a haircut and booked to travel over to the UK for us to find her a loving home.

Sadly the day before Katie was due to travel she escaped !!!  A massive search was instigated in Bucharest to find her and days later she was found in the possession of Gypsy's who demanded a financial reward !!! Katie's rescuers did what they had to and got her back to safety and she was on her way to the UK again to start the rest of her life.

Last week this wonderful, loving, resilient bundle of fun arrived at my house for foster care and for me to find her a new forever home.  I'm honoured to have her here and these last few days we have been at our caravan in Wales with Katie and my 5 other dogs and she loved it !

This little lady deserves the best and I pledge to her to find her a top notch home.

Katie is a spaniel cross, and springer spaniel sized.

Katie is perfectly housetrained, and travels well in the car.

She has a lovely playful nature, and is just a really pleasant girl to have around. She has no issues at all with other dogs, and loves to play with another resident bitch.

Her fur is growing back nicely after her poor hair cut!  She eats well, has no food or toy possession issues.

Katie is ok to be left for a few hours, she doesn't chew or howl and is house trained OK

This girl is bombproof !!!  She is a wonderful, loyal companion and pet and ready to be your best friend

Currently in foster care in Warrington, Cheshire.

< Tiny

This is a very small dog.

Tiny is a very active, affectionate 10 years old Jack Russell who is a gorgeous little companion and pet.

He is well behaved in the house, walks nicely, gets on well with other dogs but doesn’t like cats.

Tiny has a huge personality, he is a right character and very loving and loyal, he "talks" to you by making little growling noises and just wants to join in with your life.

Tiny needs human companionship most of the time and some regular short walks to go to the toilet.  He is not a dog that needs a lot of exercise.  A securely fenced garden would be great for him to go in and out the house.

Tiny is not used to children, we do not know what he is is like with children so no children under 10 years old.

He is in good condition, our vet just did a full dental clean and necessary extractions of bad teeth.

If you need a friend, Tiny is the dog for you.

Tiny needs the following home:

< Funtime Frankie

Frankie is with First Step Dog Rescue, Sheffield, we are passing Potential Owners forms to them so please register an interest in this advert.

Frankie is a small one year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross.  He is in a foster home, where he is very loved!   He is housetrained and will go and sit at the door when he needs to go outside.

Frankie adores people and he loves to be with his foster family, but he's also content being alone while his foster mum is at work for a few hours in the mornings.

Funtime Frankie loves to play, especially with his squeaky ball, and he never tires of having it thrown for him.   He’s even learnt to return the ball and drop it.  He’s a clever boy, and he learns very fast.  He's learnt to 'sit', 'lie', 'wait' and do 'high five' in exchange for a treat!

Frankie loves his walks and need two decent walks a day (about an hour each). He’s friendly with the dogs he meets out on walks as well as with the 3 greyhounds in his foster home.  He's had play-dates with other dogs and got on really well with them too.

He hasn’t been properly cat tested, so it’s uncertain whether he’d be okay to live with a cat, but from his reaction to cats he sees out on walks we think maybe not so NO CATS PLEASE

Frankie is incredibly cuddly and affectionate, and he loves to have his tummy rubbed!  He’d make someone a lovely, loyal pal.

Frankie is doing really well in his foster home, and his foster mum and dad are very fond of him, but he needs a forever home, where he can continue to blossom.  Potential adopters should remember that Frankie is only a youngster and be prepared to continue with his training.  He does need an owner who will set boundaries in a kind way.

He will need a secure garden and would be best rehomed with children no younger than 12 years due to his boisterous nature.

Frankie also has his own Facebook page 'Hey Frankie', where you can see lots more pictures and videos of the adorable pup in his foster home.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF BOTH PARTNERS IN THE FAMILY WORK FULL TIME.

This dog is initially very nervous and shy when you meet her but if she is ignored she soon comes around and wants a fuss and cuddle.

Lola is good with horses, she ignores them and doesn't bark or chase them.

Lola would suit a quiet, child-free home with calm, patient, TRUE DOG LOVERS

Lola is very loyal and affectionate and once she gets to know you she is happy to be stroked and fussed.  She is very intelligent and learns quickly if she is given consistent commands and reward for doing well.

Nelson lived with a cat, here they are below looking out the window together

< Nelson - a little dog with a big heart

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

A LOVELY LITTLE MAN WITH LOADS OF LOVE TO GIVE.  HE REALLY NEEDS FOREVER OWNERS TO CALL HIS OWN.

Nelson needs an experienced owner, he is anxious around other dogs until he gets to know that they will not hurt him.  Nelson loves children (over 10 years please) and is cat friendly.  Totally adorable little man !!!!

Update from the foster

Today there was a festival in the village and Nelson went along to join in with his girlfriend Vikki Snuggle-Bug who is at the same foster home.  Dear Nelson was so happy to see everyone and so excited about all the fun and laughter.  He just wagged his tail non-stop and had a huge smile on his face.  He made a bit of a bark when he saw another dog but we just turned him away and distracted him and he went quiet.  He shared a hot dog and sat by the river watching the ducks.  Later it got hot so Nelson and Vikki shared an ice cream and lay in the shade.  They then went for a lovely half hour along the canal and saw the barges and more ducks.  Everyone who saw Nelson was greeted with a waggy tail and everyone loved him.  He is such a character, a super companion and he walks so nicely on the lead.

Nelson is a Jack Russell 2 years old who is a very active, bouncy boy with a really affectionate nature.  He needs a lot of stimulation and attention and loves going for long walks.

Nelson would be Ok with someone working part time and leaving him a few hours.

Nelson is the most adorable pet and companion, he is just so cute and a wonderful friend.

Nelson really loves going for a walk and will bark excitedly at the beginning of the walk but soon settles.  He barks at dogs he sees when he is out on the lead.

Nelson is anxious when meeting new dogs, he barks and whines and will snap if they come close to protect himself.  He is simply afraid that new dogs may hurt him.  However after a few minutes of running around off lead he is very happy and friendly if they are friendly with him.

Nelson is fostered with 6 other dogs and spends hours each day running round the foster's small holding and having a great time playing with all the dogs.  He is such a cheerful character you can't help but smile at his antics.

Nelson is brilliant with children, in his previous home he has lived with over 10 years old and played happily with them.

Nelson lived with cats he is CAT FRIENDLY

Nelson is a little overweight at the moment but it doesn't slow him down much, he will easily get fitter over time.

Nelson loves travelling in the car and going out and about with you.

He has a passport for foreign travel.

Nelson is your best friend, all he wants is someone that he can love.  .

We are looking for a home with

  • lots of attention and love
  • experienced, kind dog owners
  • an ability to train a dog using reward based methods
  • not if both partners work full time
  • children must be over 10 years and dog-wise and confident
  • an active home where he will get a lot of exercise

< Vikki Snuggle-Bug

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

THE SIZE OF A RABBIT

VERY AFFECTIONATE SHE WILL PROTECT YOU WITH HER LIFE.

We are looking for a very kind, patient, gentle owner with a bigger non terrier type of dog who really understands dogs and really loves dogs.

Vikki is a  tiny Jackhuahua which is a Jack Russell cross Chihuahua.  She is about the size of a rabbit.  Vikki is a very affectionate dog with the people she knows and once she has been introduced to strangers she is very friendly.  You can pick her up and cuddle her and she is so loveable.  She guards the house and garden and will nip the postman but she never snaps at  people she knows.  The foster handles her very kindly and gently as she is such a tiny dog and may be easily scared.  Vikki is given loads of encouragement by the foster when she does the right thing and she really responds well to praise.   She is a really sweet little girl and so easy to fall in love with her.

This is an easy dog to own and live with, but you need to have your wits about you and be sensible and intelligent about the way you handle her and manage her..

Vikki is one year old, she is adorable, and very well behaved in the house.  She is house trained, not destructive as long as she is given rawhide chews, can be left alone for short periods if she has another companion dog.  Vikki travels well in the car and loves to go out and about with you wherever you go.

VVIKKI IS NERVOUS WHEN FIRST MEETING DOGS BUT AT HER SIZE SHE DOES NOT DAMAGE WHEN SHE SNAPS AT THEM, SHE WILL NEED SOMEONE CONFIDENT ABOUT SOCIALISING HER WITH OTHER DOGS.

She needs someone around most of the time and no kids.  We are looking for an owner who is good with dogs and understands terriers.

NO CATS PLEASE

Vikki has been given loads of frequent walks, she is good off lead unless there are rabbits to chase, she currently gets 3-4 hours each day between 7am and 10pm divided into many short walks.  Vikki is now incredibly fit and has good strong muscles.  She is  in superb condition according to the vet.

Vikki feels the cold so the photo shows her wearing her blue pajamas under her sheepskin coat whilst in her fur padded bed in her crate.  Then she wears an overcoat on top when she goes outside !!!

This dog would walk the Pennine Way no problem !!!  She would suit active outdoor owners who really like to be out in the countryside.  We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

  • this dog will nip the heels of strangers such as the postman or maintenance workers so needs to be carefully controlled until she knows them
  • anxious when meeting new dogs, barks at dogs when on lead
  • no children
  • can live with a gentle dog but not another terrier type as terriers often fight
  • no cats
  • terrier experience valuable
  • needs lots of exercise
  • good quality diet needed she has a sensitive stomach
  • crate trained
  • housetrained
  • must wear a coat or two when outside as she feels the cold
  • very affectionate and bonds strongly with her owner

We are looking for an active home with someone around most of the time, and long term lifestyle and financial stability.

The garden must be fenced and secure.

Please do not apply unless you have many years of experience with rescue dogs who have issues

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

< Boudicea is back !!!!

IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY PLEASE APPLY FOR A DOG ON YOUR RETURN WE CANNOT KEEP A DOG FOR YOU.

Boudicea is very aptly named after a Warrior Queen !!!  This is  not a dog for the faint hearted. THIS DOG IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN.

This is the smallest dog, even smaller than a Chihuahua but has been returned by experienced dog handlers as she has a huge personality and bossy attitude with other small dogs.

We are looking for owners who have a bigger dog, or no other dog if they can be around most of the time to keep her company.

Boudicea is a tiny teacup Yorkshire Terrier about the size of a guinea pig.  She is a little dog with a HUGE personality.  She loves everyone she meets and is very good with big dogs although she can sometimes be bossy with small dogs.

Boudicea is being fostered on a small holding where she runs 4- 5 hours each day around the fields.  She will need a lot of exercise in her new home so just letting her in a big garden is simply not enough.  It would be great if she went to a home with bigger dogs who already get a lot of exercise.  If she gets tired she is so small you can pick her up she weighs next to nothing.

We are looking for a home with

  • lots of attention and love
  • experienced, kind dog owners
  • someone at home most of the time
  • not if both partners work full time
  • no children
  • 4 -5 short walks a day plus time in the garden
  • secure fenced garden
  • long term lifestyle and financial security

where she will be treated like a proper dog and given a really interesting life with lots of love.

NO CHILDREN PLEASE SHE IS SO TINY THEY COULD ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGE HER.

PLEASE DON'T APPLY IF BOTH PARTNERS WORK FULL TIME, LOTS OF TIME, PATIENCE AND EXERCISE NEEDED.

THIS DOG DOESN'T WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE MANY HOURS AT A TIME

Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms.

Phone Kathy 07711617148 between 9.30am - 6.00pm or text any time. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAME AND SURNAME IN THE TEXT.

< BB Bobby if you live on a farm or small holding

BB Bobby NEEDS TO LIVE ON A FARM or SMALL HOLDING WITH OTHER DOGS, where he is free to run about and in and out of the house.  He cannot stand the stress of constantly having a harness put on to go for a walk, as handling him really makes him nervous and he goes straight into self defense mode and becomes snappy.

BB Bobby is extremely affectionate once he gains your trust and as long as you limit the handling to a minimum he will never bite.  However if he becomes scared when you are handling him he will snap.

BB Bobby the Yorkshire Terrier - DO YOU LIVE ON A FARM?? ARE YOU A KIND, PATIENT, EXPERIENCED DOG OWNER?? please understand the reason for the farm is because BB Bobby will not tolerate having a lead and harness on so a normal house on a ro
ad is not right for him. On a farm he could run round off lead, he is currently fostered on a small holding and DOESN'T RUN AWAY. He just trots round the fields all day enjoying himself without the stress of lead walking. He simply comes in and out of the house as needed, sleeps in the kitchen with all the other dogs.  He must be housed indoors not outside in a kennel.
He doesn't like to be given too much fuss. It is easy to accidentally upset him when fussing him and he may snap, so we need a home where owners understand this and don't keep bothering him.
BB Bobby is a very affectionate, loyal pet and companion if these simple rules are adhered to,

NO CATS PLEASE

NO CHILDREN PLEASE

Very special kind, loving, patient owners needed for this little mite, with a lot of common sense and experienced with terriers

Neutered, microchipped,  vaccinated treated for fleas and worms

Pringle needs experienced dog owners.

< Suzie

This gorgeous girl is with UK German Shepherd Rescue.

This little lady is Suzie, who was found as a stray and is now in our care. She is such a happy dog, with a very waggy tail as she is so pleased to meet you.

Suzie is only young, possibly around 18mths old, and has the friendliest temperament ever seen She is NOT BIG, only the size of a Collie.

She is clean in her kennel, so most likely housetrained. She travelled well to the kennels in the car, with no sickness.

Suzie is German Shepherd possibly crossed with a Husky, but she is quite small in size. She is so very pretty and in good condition with a shiny coat and clean teeth.  Being a cross breed she is healthier than a pedigree.

She is desperate for love and attention, and loves company of humans.  She is a proper pet and companion.

She seems fine with other dogs at the kennels, but not so sure of small dogs.

Cats unknown so NO CATS PLEASE

As we know nothing of Suzie's background, we wont rehome her with children under 7 years of age.

We always recommend dogs are kept on the lead around livestock especially as we are in the lambing season now.

PLEASE ensure your car is big enough to travel the dog in comfort and safety without being squashed in causing it to feel cramped and claustrophobic

< Diva

This dog is with Friends of Akitas Rescue

Diva needs calm, quiet owners who are capable of handling a big dog, who can offer a forever home with long term financial and lifestyle security.

Diva is a 3 years old American Akita.  This breed is often overlooked due to bad press but it is a breed that is loyal, docile, intelligent and very affectionate with it's own family.  Akitas are good guard dogs and very  protective over children within their own family.  Akitas do not like being teased and pulled around by children, so sensible dog-wise children are needed who understand how to treat dogs with kindness and respect.  Akitas are strong willed and need experienced, calm owners to treat them fairly.  They are physically strong so need fit, active owners.  Akitas can live to 14-15 years if well cared for and fed good quality diet.

Diva is a friendly and inquisitive dog and she loves to have a fuss.  She is a calm, relaxed girl who shows no signs of toy or food guarding.

NO CATS PLEASE Diva cannot live with cats.

Diva can live with another kind calm male dog.

LAMBING SEASON - KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL

< Sky

Sky is with UK German Shepherd Rescue.

We are appealing for a very special home for our lovely Sky.

Sky is only around 3 yrs old, but has problems with her hips & hocks, which mean she will only be mobile for a few years.  Her Xrays show bone overgrowth and the vet has informed us there is no option for surgery.

So Sky needs a special home, who will exercise her regularly but not over do it.  She would not be able to do hilly walks, or long hikes.  She would benefit greatly from swimming, and the rescue will pay for 2 hydrotherapy sessions per month for her for life.  Her weight needs to be kept low, and she would benefit from supplements such as Yumove, green lipped mussel, and glucosamine & chondroitin.

Sky is a happy girl, who rarely needs pain relief, but will need it more as time goes on.  Worst case scenario in approx 2yrs time , she wont be able to hold her back end up.  Best case scenario she will potter around for a couple of years and hopefully reach 7 or 8 yrs old.   We simply don't know.

Sky has so much love to give.  She adores children.  She is fine with other dogs.  She is housetrained, travels well, and really enjoys the walks she does.  Her recall is good.

NO CATS PLEASE

Please can somebody open their hearts to this lovely girl, and cherish her for the rest of her days? THE SKY IS THE LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF LOVE SHE WILL GIVE YOU.

Currently in foster care nr Oldham, Lancs
